“Call Me Crazy: A Five Film” Star, Brittany Snow Q&A
Written by Colleen on April 14, 2013 • Leave a message? / No Comments

Your character, “Lucy” appears in 3 out of the 5 shorts. What was it like working with such a talented group and how did you adapt to each director’s film-making style?

Each short [“Lucy”, “Grace”, “Allison”] is different. My character goes through huge changes and gets older throughout these shorts. Each director [Bryce Dallas Howard, Laura Dern, Sharon Maguire] had a unique style that really helped influence my performance and what stage [my character] “Lucy” was in. Every 3 days [I shot with] a new director, so it was really fun getting a new take on the character in that time of her life.

Each director is so talented and I felt honored to even be working of them. They are all people I respect and have admired for a long time.

You play a schizophrenic law student in “Call Me Crazy: A Five Film.” Was it difficult getting into character?

I did a lot of research going into the role. I talked to many people and read a lot. I wanted to be as prepared as possible and then once on set, let my connection to “Lucy” take over the research. It was a bit difficult because I wanted to make sure it was detailed and accurate as possible. It was very fulfilling and rewarding.

How did you prepare for the role?

I talked to a psychologist at length, watched many videos, read books, and talked to many people who have dealt with schizophrenia.

How would you describe your characters development throughout the movie?

What I love about this movie is the hope it brings. My character really believes that because of her mental illness, she will not achieve her goals and she is destined to a life of unhappiness and hardship. What she learns is, with hard work and proper treatment, she can become the woman she wanted to be and also help others.

“Call Me Crazy” Lifetime Film airs April 20th

LOS ANGELES, CA (March 19, 2013) – The Lifetime Original Movie event Call Me Crazy: A Five Film, which brings together an all-star ensemble cast with five interwoven stories about how everlasting bonds of love and family can overcome life’s most challenging hurdles, will make its world premiere on Saturday, April 20, at 8:00pm ET/PT.

Through the five shorts named after each title character — Lucy, Eddie, Allison, Grace and Maggie – powerful relationships built on hope and triumph raise a new understanding of what happens when a loved one struggles with mental illness. Call Me Crazy stars Academy Award(R) and Golden Globe(R) winners Jennifer Hudson (Dreamgirls), Melissa Leo (The Fighter) and Octavia Spencer (The Help), Sarah Hyland (Modern Family), Sofia Vassilieva (My Sister’s Keeper), Brittany Snow (Pitch Perfect), Ernie Hudson (Oz), Jason Ritter (Parenthood), three-time Emmy Award(R)-winner Jean Smart (Frasier), Lea Thompson (J. Edgar), Oscar(R)-nominee Melanie Griffith (Working Girl) and Chelsea Handler (Chelsea Lately). Laura Dern (Enlightened), Bryce Dallas Howard (The Help), Bonnie Hunt (Return to Me), Ashley Judd (Missing) and Sharon Maguire (Bridget Jones’s Diary) direct the anthology.

Call Me Crazy is executive produced by Jennifer Aniston, Marta Kauffman, Kristin Hahn, Kevin Chinoy and Francesca Silvestri, all of whom executive produced last year’s critically acclaimed Lifetime Original Movie Five. The movie is produced by Sony Pictures Television, Echo Films and Freestyle Picture Company.

“When we started researching this topic, we were all surprised to learn that one in four adults lives with some sort of mental illness. With so many people dealing with this in their private lives, there is still so much stigma and shame. It’s time we bring it out of the closet and into the light of day,” said Aniston.

Kauffman added, “We are so proud to be a part of this powerful television event. To work with such amazingly talented directors, writers and actors, and for Lifetime to give us the opportunity to tackle such an important issue is nothing less than miraculous. We are extremely grateful to be able to shed even a little light on this topic, and we fervently hope that this is just the beginning of the mental health discussion in our country.”

“We are thrilled to have such a brilliant ensemble of talent – both in front of and behind the camera – on this film, which uses dramatic and comedic storytelling to capture one of the most relevant issues our country faces today,” said Rob Sharenow, Executive Vice President, Programming, of Lifetime Networks.

“After the success of Five, it is a privilege to collaborate again on Call Me Crazy: A Five Film,” said Helen Verno, Executive Vice President of Movies and Miniseries, Sony Pictures Television. “This brilliant team of executive producers has gathered an extraordinary cast and an exemplary team of directors and writers to create an innovative approach to address the serious subject matter of mental illness.”

Brittany Snow to Star as Legal Ladder-Climber in Fox’s To My Future Assistant
Written by Colleen on February 27, 2013 • Leave a message? / No Comments

Brittany Snow will play an ambitious law-school grad looking to raise the bar — now that she’s passed it — in Fox’s comedy pilot To My Future Assistant, TVLine has learned.

The potential series is based on a blog and upcoming book of the same name by Lydia Whitlock. It follows the grumbling, oppressed assistants at a tony New York city law firm, and it is written by Sherry Bilsing-Graham (Friends) and Ellen Kreamer (The New Adventures of Old Christine), with Dan Lin and Jennifer Gwartz also serving as EPs.
Snow’s character Jen hopes to snag an associate lawyer position at her firm, thus freeing her from the tedium of being a legal assistant.
The project’s cast also includes Catherine O’Hara (Best in Show) as a powerful lawyer/not-so-nice person.
The actress followed her American Dreams run with roles in Nip/Tuck, Harry’s Law and Gossip Girl and parts in feature films. She also played a love interest for Ben & Kate‘s Tommy before Fox pulled the comedy from its schedule in January.
