“How LA Changed Her Style”
Written by Colleen on May 25, 2012

What’s your opinion of LA fashion? Do you feel like there’s a style emblematic of LA?
“LA style is interesting because it’s a combination of where people originated from and the vibe and laid-back mentality of LA. There are so many different types of people here that are creative and passionate, and you kind of see that [reflected] in their style.”

What do you think happens to someone’s style when they move here?
“I think [people become] a little more adventurous in some ways but also realize that outfits don’t have to look as put-together. When I got to LA it was pretty interesting how much I wanted to mismatch. In Florida, I came from the land of polo shirts that matched the shorts that matched the… When you come out here you realize that the most interesting looks are actually not meant to be, really.”

The question we always ask: Where do you like to shop in LA?
“I’m a big vintage person. There’s a store on 3rd street that I go to all the time, and the Rose Bowl. I get vintage pieces and then go on Robertson to like Kitson and Armani Exchange and other places I can actually afford. The cool thing about my job is that I get sent a lot of good stuff—and sometimes a lot of not-so-good stuff—but if you put it all together it can really work. Some of my favorite designers are Stella McCartney, Chloe, Miu Miu and of course Phillip Lim. It’s cool to mix in those things.”

So if those designers sent you something, you’d take it.
“Well, it’s not really like I can send it back! Usually you can make it work. I’m not one of those people that dismisses things. If I can make it work, I’m going to.”
